How to Elevate Your Winter Gatherings: Style Tips from Vivielle Events

When the days get short, people want to gather. A winter party should feel warm, looked after and a little bit spoiled. Here are three styling ideas we use to get there without a cluttered table.
1. Let the lighting do the heavy lifting
Warm light is the cheapest luxury there is. Skip the overhead lights and layer in:
Fairy lights along beams, shelves or mantels for a soft glow
A lit tree as your backdrop, even a small one
Candles and metallic accents, like mercury-glass trees, that catch the light and double the sparkle
Look at the photo above: the whole scene glows amber. The food looks richer, the guests look better, and nobody needs a spotlight.
2. Serve individual grazing cones
Grazing boards are beautiful, but after twenty hands have reached across them, not so much. Grab-and-go cones solve that.
Hygiene: every guest gets their own portion, with no shared reaching or double-dipping
Ease: one hand holds the cone, the other holds a drink, so guests can mingle
Impact: a tray of upright cones works as a centerpiece
How to build one
Fold kraft paper into a cone and stand it in a tray.
Layer folded salami "roses" on a pick for height and texture.
Add mozzarella pearls, cherry tomatoes and olives for color.
Tuck in crackers, breadsticks and a sprig of fresh mint.
Top with a star-shaped pick for a festive touch.
Tip: Mix salami varieties, from deep red to bright paprika orange, so the tray looks varied without extra effort.
3. Keep festive touches luxurious, not cluttered
The difference between elegant and overdone is restraint. Choose a small palette (here it's red, green, silver and warm wood) and repeat it.
One statement serving piece, like an ornate silver tray, lets the food be the decoration
Tiny details such as star picks and fresh mint do more than a pile of props
Breathing room on shelves and surfaces keeps the look curated
If you're about to add one more ornament, take one away instead.
Your winter hosting checklist
Warm, low lighting instead of overheads
Individual portions guests can hold and walk with
A tight color palette
One standout serving piece
Fresh herbs for scent and color
